I am an Advanced Actor-Combatant with the BASSC, holding Distinctions in Rapier & Dagger, Unarmed, Swashbuckling, Broadsword, Sword & Shield, Small Sword & Quarterstaff.
I have performed violence as an actor for stage and screen, in addition to working as a combat specialist on behalf of the Royal Opera House & National Geographic, among others.
As the Artistic Director of FIGHT REP, I created a project that helps actors improve their screen combat skills through repertory fight scene production with working industry fight directors, simultaneously honing my own skills as a director of action.
I provide choreography and skill-share workshops for theatrical productions and films. I have choreographed on a variety of scales, from one-on-one unarmed fights to medieval battles with up to twenty combatants. I have experience working in a range of spaces, including in-the-round, thrust, and proscenium theatrical spaces, as well as for many different genres of film, using a wide range of fighting styles.
I am not a teacher. I am a practitioner. I have an expansive network of excellent stage combat teachers located throughout the UK and beyond, and I am always happy to provide recommendations for training.
“The last time I worked with Rob Myles was on Moshinsky’s Simon Boccanegra at the Royal Opera House. The experience was, as always, an absolute pleasure. Not only because he is one of the pre-eminent actor-combatants of his generation, with an extraordinary skill-set and the ability to make any choreography look amazing whilst sustaining, but masking from the audience, all of the requisite safety elements, but also because he is the easiest person to work with. He’s a great member of a team or ensemble, generous with his colleagues, and always cheerful no matter how much pressure he’s under. He is at the top of my‘Go To’ list, and I hope to work with him again many times in the future, simply because he makes my job easy.”
“Rob is an amazing actor, writer, Shakespeare performer, stage combat fighter and fight director. What more can you want? I’ve seen his work, he assisted me on “Hamlet” at The Shakespeare’s Globe and I trust him with my right hand and my left, even with my sword!
Don’t think twice, just hire him.”
“It has been my pleasure both to teach and fight direct Rob Myles and on each occasion have found him to be an extremely accomplished actor-combatant, who draws on his own choreographic experience to explore the full potential within a fight choreography to create the best possible performance and also successfully motivates other performers to do the same.
He is an asset to any fight performance as performer or choreographer.”
“On the number of occasions I’ve worked with Rob Myles he has proven to be an effective fight performer, with a clear understanding of safety and acting the fight. He has picked up choreography very quickly and has a good grasp of martial logic.
He has also produced and directed on a number of productions involving fights and managed the various relationships of departments and actors very well under tight deadlines.”
