STAGE COMBAT

I am a Certified Teacher with the British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat, the UK’s longest running and most rigorous teaching and accrediting body.

I am the lead instructor for Stage Fight Scotland, teaching multiple courses and workshops across Scotland, including at the Royal Conservatoire Scotland.

I am an Advanced Actor-Combatant holding Distinctions in Rapier & Dagger, Unarmed, Swashbuckling, Broadsword, Sword & Shield, Small Sword, Rapier & Cloak, Knife & Quarterstaff.

I have performed violence as an actor for stage and screen, in addition to working as a combat specialist on behalf of the Royal Opera House, Shakespeare’s Globe, National Geographic and others.

As the Artistic Director of FIGHT REP, I created a project that helps actors improve their screen combat skills through repertory fight scene production with working industry fight directors, simultaneously honing my own skills as a director of action.

I have created a wide range of fights across genres and eras for both stage and screen, most recently Sherlock Holmes: The Valley of Fear for Blackeyed Theatre and Sus at the Park Theatre. I have choreographed on a variety of scales, from one-on-one unarmed fights to medieval battles with up to twenty combatants. I have experience working in a range of spaces, including in-the-round, thrust, and proscenium theatrical spaces, as well as for many different genres of film, using a wide range of fighting styles.

I have an expansive network of excellent stage combat performers, teachers and fight directors. See below for their thoughts on my work.
